Black and White Storage With a Playful Twist

Clean lines do not have to mean predictable rooms. This storage idea mixes crisp black and white basics with bursts of colour and clutter-taming tricks, perfect for compact Maltese apartments where every wall and corner needs to earn its keep.

Letting order and playfulness share a wall

This look starts with a sense of calm structure and then lets a bit of happy chaos in. IKEA's KALLAX shelving unit forms the backbone, with a KALLAX insert with 2 drawers tucked into one cube for smaller bits that need hiding away. Beside it, IKEA's TRONES shoe cabinet/storage stacks neatly in a hallway or behind a door, reclaiming floor space that flats and maisonettes rarely have to spare.

On the wall, SKÅDIS hook, SKÅDIS shelf, SKÅDIS container and SKÅDIS container with lid turn a plain pegboard into a lively, shifting display of tools, plants or stationery. A MOPPE mini chest of drawers adds a splash of order on a desk or inside a wardrobe. The result feels tidy, but never stiff, which suits homes where rooms often have to do several jobs at once.

Pulling the pieces together

Once the main storage is in place, smaller accessories do the work of making it feel finished. IKEA's SKÅDIS pegboard is the natural starting point, dressed up with SKÅDIS clip and SKÅDIS hook to hold everything from scissors to sunhats within easy reach. A SKÅDIS container adds a place for loose odds and ends that would otherwise clutter a shelf.

Nearby, a SVENSÅS memo board keeps notes and photos visible without resorting to tape on the wall, while a DRÖNA box slots into open shelving to hide away things you would rather not see. A KLUNKA laundry bag is a practical addition for narrow bathrooms or utility corners, and a STOCKHOLM rug grounds the whole scheme underfoot, softening tiled floors during Malta's cooler winter months.
